Khayelitsha animal shelter appeals for homes amidst cold weather
The Mdzananda Animal Clinic is urgently appealing to the public to provide forever homes to their homeless dogs as the current weather conditions are not ideal for them to remain in the shelter.
Despite their efforts to ensure their comfort with enclosed units, beds and blankets, the concrete structures of the shelter kennels retain the cold and is accessible to the harsh wind which is not conducive to the well-being of the animals.
“Our shelter is currently operating at 150% capacity and is unable to accept any more surrenders. We are deeply concerned about the fate of the animals that cannot be taken in during this harsh weather,” says Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising, Communications and Programmes Executive.
The Mdzananda Animal Clinic calls on the community to open their hearts and homes to these dogs.
“Adopting a dog not only brings warmth and love to the animal but also helps us create more space in our shelter to assist other pets in need within the community,” says Carolyn Dudgeon, Programmes Manager.
To adopt a dog, contact adoptions@mdzananda.co.za or 064 985 2513. To view the dogs available for adoption, visit www.mdzananda.co.za.
“Together, we can ensure that no dog is left out in the cold,” says du Plessis.
