about us
The Mdzananda Animal Clinic strives to see a community that cares for every animal be it a pet, neighbour’s pet, stray or farm animal. A community that loves animals is a healthy community. By looking after an animal people learn responsibility, respect for life, compassion and non-violence.
Mdzananda works on enhancing the wellbeing of animals and their human companions through providing low cost veterinary health care services, education and by forming partnerships inside and outside of the community.
We have a strong focus on community empowerment and education and focus on understanding the community’s needs, embracing this and gaining their respect and trust. Mdzananda is in the community, for the community.
Khayelitsha has a population of approximately 1 million people and an estimate of 300 000 companion animals. The community is high in crime and violence and lacks education and income. Most pet guardians cannot afford private veterinary care. Mdzananda provides the only accessible veterinary care to Khayelitsha and surrounding communities.
Vision
Companionship and Community Care for every animal.
Mission
Enhancing wellbeing for animals and their community through veterinary health care, education and partnerships.
Services
the
care we provide
Healthcare & Ambulance
Our healthcare facilities offer comprehensive services including emergency transportation, consultation, hospital and a fully equipped theatre.
Sterilisation & Preventative Care
Through partnerships and various sponsors we are able to contribute to mass sterilisation. We also offer a number of preventative care options such as tick and flea treatment, vaccination and deworming.
Shelter & Adoption
We are home to many strays brought in by the community. These animals remain in our care, until we are able to find a suitable forever home for them.
Education & Outreach
We host educational programmes at schools and at our clinic. These include volunteers helping to bathe pets, clean cages and more. Our school programmes include various workshops in life skills classes and we also host workshops with grassroot organisations and other NPOs in the community.
We have numerous sections working together to make up the Mdzananda Animal Clinic. Read more…
Prevention of Cruelty
Our Animal Welfare Inspectors investigate cases of abuse and neglect in the community. Education is always the first call except in cases of deliberate cruelty where confiscation and prosecution will take place.
